Description
Background
In the early 2000’s, advances in the absorption of materials on a micro-scale led to the development and introduction of devices that employed very small needles called “microneedles”. Aside from the increased natural collagen benefits involved with microneedling, the motivation was to deliver drugs by perforating the dermal layer of the skin to allow for transdermal absorption of a variety of active compounds. The needles are inserted into skin, they pierce the skin and create micro-conduits, utilized for the transportation of active compounds.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is ideal for non-surgical and non-ablative treatment of various skin conditions such as aging (wrinkles, stretching), scarring (acne, surgical), and hyperpigmentation.
MTS Roller: The original American-made microneedling solution.
After extensive research and further development of the skin needle abrasion technology, Clinical Resolution Laboratory, Inc. (CRL), a California Corporation, re-invented new version of the device, called the MTS Roller. This medical-grade instrument was released to the public in 2004.
Today’s MTS Roller
The MTS Roller combines the best features of both techniques and at the same time offers additional advantages. Depending on the depth of the roller you purchase, rolling of the MTS Roller over the skin will cause hundreds, if not thousands, of minuscule wounds on the dermis, while creating tiny holes on the epidermis, which will close in hours. This will start up an aseptic inflammation process, which will result in collagen production.
MTS Roller Specifications
MTS Roller is a durable and high quality precision tool, with 100-1000µm in length and 10-15µm diameter at the tip. The roller disc and handles are made from Lexan Polycarbonate Resin and the axle is polished stainless steel. It holds 200 fine Swedish surgical stainless steel needles.
MTS Roller causes micro-injuries to the skin to trigger the body’s natural wound healing response. The micro-injuries stimulate the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to accelerated induction and remodeling of collagen and elastin. Hundreds of micro-channels created by the MTS Roller serve to manipulate cellular communication to increase collagen and elastin, allowing you to effectively treat scars, wrinkles, lax skin, pigmentation and reduced epidermal density. The addition of home-rolling to your in-clinic microneedling sessions enhances client outcomes, and therefore client retention.
The gentle stimulation provided by the MTS Roller is far more “skin friendly” and much less painful than many other invasive and more expensive skin treatments. Unlike chemical and energy based ablations that destroy and damage the epidermis, MTS Roller leaves the entire epidermal barrier intact. The micro-channels are closed within a matter of minutes to hours.
MTS Roller eliminates commonly known negative side effects and risks associated with chemical peeling, dermabrasion, and laser resurfacing and will allow your client to resume normal routines quickly. After microneedling with MTS Roller, the skin is thicker, healthier, and more responsive to additional treatments. MTS Roller models MR2 and MR3 are designed for personal care and are virtually painless. MR5, MR10, MR15, and MR20 are clinical and medical depth rollers for licensed professionals only and should be used with a topical anesthetic cream (i.e. Zensa, Numb Master).
*Please note: As a student of Doctor Lance Setterfield, Pro Skin Guru does not recommend using anything other than sterile saline solution during rolling or needing, and the Hyaluronic Acid of your choice on the skin for 24 hours post-needling in order to minimize complications that can occur from needling serums into the skin. All claims made regarding these solutions are those of Clinical Resolutions Lab and are not those of Pro Skin Guru, Rilevi Enterprieses, LLC, Jennifer Buker, or any employee of these entities. You should rely on your own training when determining what product to use (or not to use) during needling treatments.
Pro Skin Guru is not affiliated with Dr. Lance Setterfield or www.needlingguide.com in any way. I have just personally taken this training, which has helped me to feel much more qualified to avoid any of the complications that can occur without proper training.
